Whether your child is a preschooler or school age – learning in school or virtually – they should be reading! We want to make it as easy and time-saving for parents as possible.

Over a month ago we announced “Mystery Book Bags” for children, and response has been great! Here’s how it works:

  1. Call your Dare County Library location weekdays between 9 am and 5 pm.
  2. Tell us a little about your child’s reading interests.
  3. We will schedule a convenient curbside pick-up time for you.

After you are off the phone, our staff will then search our collection and select books we believe your child will enjoy based on the information you’ve given to us. When you arrive for curbside pick-up, the library books will already be checked out to you and ready for your to take home for child to enjoy!

If you’ve already borrowed a “Mystery Book Bag” from us, great – remember to “Make it a Weekly Thing”, and get some new books into the hand of your child. If you are a parent or caregivers that haven’t tried this new service yet – what are you waiting for? Simply give us a call and we’ll do all of the rest.

Other options for selecting books – you can search our online catalog www.earlibrary.org and place holds from home, or call us if there is a particular subject, author, title or genre you’d like. More information here: https://www.darenc.com/departments/libraries/reading

We also offer eBooks for children on 3 different platforms all available for free with your Dare County Library card:
