NC passes 5,000 COVID-19 deaths

North Carolina reached a sad milestone on Nov. 21 as the state surpassed 5,000 COVID-related deaths since the beginning of the pandemic (5,005). Another 3,415 cases were reported on Nov. 21 with the number of people hospitalized now at 1,590. In addition, the percentage of positive tests out of all tests administered also edged up — to 8.5%

 

Dare County

The Dare County Department of Health and Human Services reported 5 new cases of COVID-19 on Nov. 21, marking the fewest cases reported in a single day since Nov. 9. There have now been 962 cases reported here since the outset of the pandemic.

Of the new cases, three involved residents of Dare County and two involved non-residents. One resident, a female at least 65 years old, has been hospitalized, meaning there are currently six Dare County residents hospitalized with the virus.

  • Reported cases in Dare, Currituck and Hyde Counties – 1,447 (Dare 962, Currituck 304, Hyde 181)
  • Completed tests – 4,860,430
  • Daily percent positive tests – 8.5%

Note: Every morning, the NC Department of Health and Human Services posts updates the number of reported cases of coronavirus. That number reflects positive results from all tests, including the NC State Laboratory of Public Health and all hospital and commercial labs. There may be other reports, from the media and elsewhere, that will include different numbers during a given day, but this is an effective way of tracking numbers from the same source on a day-to-day basis.
