NC reports almost 3,500 new COVID cases

North Carolina reported 3,444 new cases of COVID-19 on Nov. 28. The number of hospitalizations rose to 1,840 and the percentage of positive tests out of all tests administered also rose to 7.8% compared with 7.3% a day earlier.

Dare County reported only 3 new cases of COVID-19 on Nov. 28, the fewest number of cases reported in a single day since Nov. 9. All three of the newest cases involve Dare County residents who are isolating at home.

  • Total reported NC cases – 357,958
  • New cases reported today – 3,444
  • Reported deaths – 5,219
  • Currently hospitalized – 1,840
  • Suspected COVID-19 cases hospitalized in past 24 hours – 212 (down 43 from yesterday)
  • Confirmed COVID-19 case hospitalized in past 24 hours – 178 (down 40 from yesterday)
  • Adults in ICU with COVID-19 – 450 (up 13 from yesterday)
  • Patients presumed to be recovered – 293,555  
  • Reported cases in Dare, Currituck and Hyde Counties – 1,547 (Dare 1,038, Currituck 324, Hyde 185)
  • Completed tests – 5,224,397
  • Daily percent positive tests – 7.8%

Note: Every morning, the NC Department of Health and Human Services posts updates the number of reported cases of coronavirus. That number reflects positive results from all tests, including the NC State Laboratory of Public Health and all hospital and commercial labs. There may be other reports, from the media and elsewhere, that will include different numbers during a given day, but this is an effective way of tracking numbers from the same source on a day-to-day basis.
