This week, the Outer Banks Voice and East Carolina Radio are honoring Tiffany Fenz as the Student-Athlete of the Week. Tiffany is a three-year letter athlete in both cross country and track at Manteo High School.
In cross country, she has participated in the State Championship meet twice — once as a member of the team and once as an individual. She was the 2019 Runner-Up for Conference Runner Of The Year in the Albemarle Athletic Conference. Fenz was twice named to the All-Conference Team and has also been honored as Manteo’s Rookie Of The Year and Most Valuable Runner.
In track, Fenz placed in the states for the 800-meter event in both her freshman and sophomore campaigns before having her junior year cut short due to the pandemic. Track Coach Melissa Mann refers to Fenz as “an extremely hard worker and great teammate who has been voted as team captain by her peers.”
While Fenz doesn’t know exactly where she’ll be going to college or what she’ll be studying, she did tell the Outer Banks Voice that she will “more than likely try out for cross country and track in college.” In regard to her impressive high school resume, she credited her coaches for their support.
“Coach [Emily] Dinoto has been nothing but supportive. She has trained me from being a last-place performer all the way to coming in first. ” As for track Coach Melissa Mann, she offered similar praise, stating that, “She has both screamed at and laughed at me through the years, but has always been supportive throughout. Without Coach Mann and Dinoto, Fenz says, “I don’t know if I would have had the motivation to push through. Their support is what motivated me.”
The Outer Banks Voice and East Carolina Radio laud Fenz’s impressive accomplishments throughout her high school career and wish her luck in future endeavors.
