Starting on Friday, Feb. 12, the Walgreens store in Kitty Hawk will be administering doses of the COVID-19 vaccine under the new federal program announced last week that sends the vaccine directly to selected pharmacies.
Vaccines will be administered from Friday through Sunday. Anyone interested in registering must do so at the Walgreens.com site. Vaccine availability is an issue since about 31,200 doses were expected to be made available this week at 300 different Walgreens throughout North Carolina. A representative of the Kitty Hawk store indicated that there may be a few remaining appointments for Sunday.
Dare County Department of Health and Human Services Director Sheila Davies said that the Kitty Hawk Walgreens will be receiving 100 doses of vaccine per week and will follow the NC prioritization phases, meaning that those eligible for the shots are people 65 and older.

Good luck with the “create my account” at Walgreens.

If Walgreens administers their vaccine half as well as Dare County has done it will be successful. My wife and I had our second Moderna shots on Wednesday. The entire procedure took 15 minutes from start to finish just like the first shot a month ago. My hat if off to Sheila Davies and all of the Dare County staff and volunteers who made getting these shots so easy. Unlike friends who have waited on line for hours in Currituck County, Dare has been extremely well organized from start to finish. They could not have done a better job. The way Dare did it could be a model for the entire nation. Congrats Dare County.
