Cape Lookout National Seashore

Cape Lookout National Seashore posted this sighting of the Snowy Owl on their Facebook page.

Have you ever felt watched? When you are out on the beach it can be a little unnerving to feel like there are eyes on you but you can’t see anyone. But wait! Does that dune have eyes? It does! Almost blending in with the color of the sand is a rare winter visitor to the our beach — A Snowy Owl!

Spotted Feb. 11, on South Core Banks by our park biologist who used a spotting scope to get close up views of the owl before it finally flew away on “owl business”.

Previously, Cape Hatteras National Seashore staff caught a glimpse of a Snowy Owl on a dune on January 18 and on Jan. 7 on Ocracoke.
