The Currituck County Knights defeated the First Flight Nighthawks by a score of 76-55 Friday night February 19 at the First Flight gym. The conference game was the last regular season game for both teams. Currituck ended the season with a record of 7-6. With the loss, First Flight finished with 4 wins and 9 losses.

These conference rivals always play a hard fought game and this game was certainly no exception. Although the large crowds typical of this game were absent, the gym was often filled with loud clapping, cheering, jeering and shouts from both benches and the few fans that were allowed in to watch the game. The game was definitely a “spirited” contest that often found clumps of players on the court scrambling for the ball, players diving to save the ball from going out of bounds, and even multiple technical fouls.

This game may mark the last game of the year for the teams and as such may be the last game that some seniors will play. Clearly this game had a lot of meaning and both teams displayed an incredible amount of team spirit and competitiveness. Although at times some players displayed clear frustration and emotion, which lead to a foul, there were also displays of fairness and sportsmanship.
