The Town of Nags Head has announced that its Fire and Rescue Department has received additional federal grant funding to replace critical firefighter safety gear.
In August 2020, the Town announced that it had received a large grant awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program. Funding of $290,466 was awarded to Nags Head Fire and Rescue, with a grant match of $14,524 from the Town.
Due to cost savings on the initial gear purchased with the grant funds, Nags Head Fire and Rescue was able to amend their grant and was awarded $40,813 with a Town match of $2,040 to purchase additional gear.
“We appreciate both the generosity and the flexibility shown to our department by those managing the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program,” said Nags Head Fire Chief Randy Wells. “With this recent award, we’ll be able purchase additional equipment to provide our firefighters with the best possible tools for protecting our town.”
The Department added the following items to their scope of work due to substantial savings from their original award:
Awarded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program, the primary goal of the grant is to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire-related hazards by providing direct financial assistance to eligible fire departments, nonaffiliated Emergency Medical Services organizations, and State Fire Training Academies.

Barnhill Contracting Company will receive, open, and read publicly all bids received in person in the Training & GPS Technology Room at the main office and listed with the virtual viewing at the link to be posted on Barnhill’s Plan Room.
Bids will not be accepted from bidders that are not pre-qualified. No facsimile or email submissions are permitted.
