NPS probes vandalism at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

The National Park Service is asking for the public’s help in investigating a recent act of vandalism at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

The Cape Hatteras National Seashore has launched an investigation and seeks tips from the public to help catch those responsible for using an object to carve letters and other shapes into the lighthouse’s original bronze door.

A recent report of multiple people at the bronze door for an unusually long time has been received. Additional details are not available at this time. Anyone with information that may help determine the individual(s), circumstances and events that led to this act of vandalism are asked to contact the National Park Service’s Investigative Services Branch (ISB) or the Dare County Community Crime Line.
