The Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church, where Allison Sherman Brown is Director of Church Life, has posted this item on Facebook regarding the accident in Lower Currituck on the morning March 22 that killed Allison’s mother Barbara and left her father, Rick, badly injured in the hospital.

The sanctuary at the Church had been opened this morning “to come and pray for Allison Sherman’s father Rick. Rick is undergoing surgery today at 2:00 to repair injuries sustained in yesterday’s car accident, which took Allison’s mother Barbara home to be with the Lord. Please keep the Sherman/Brown family in your prayers as they navigate these days of loss and hope.” Allison’s husband is Scott Brown, a financial advisor and former Board President of the Outer Banks Community Foundation.

In a Facebook post early this morning, Allison said that “My only reason for this post is to ask for prayer for him . We are with Dad in ICU. Today he will have his first surgery at 2pm. He is stable, but still critical. He has many broken bones throughout his body and needs help breathing right now, but we are hopeful soon he will be able to do so on his own in a few days. The bigger prayer is for his heart. He and my mom shared one heart and last night he learned that she is gone. We know she is happy and pain free even though we already miss her so much.”

I’m incredibly saddened at this tragic news. Mrs. Sherman taught our kids with such love, and care.

If you were a part of the community, you knew Rick as a very kind and helpful gentleman always lending a hand, or guiding you in the right direction.

Our community has suffered a terrible loss. My hopes for Rick’s complete healing, and peace to his family, and friends in the hands of God.
