Friday author signings return to Downtown Books on Friday, May 7 when they will welcome North Carolina author Heather Frese whose recent publication, The Baddest Girl on the Planet, is not only set on Hatteras Island but won the Lee Smith Novel Prize as well. Frese was recently featured in the Dare County Arts Council’s Courthouse Speaker Series where she discussed her book with local author Michele Young-Stone.
The story centers around Evie Austin, a Hatteras Island native, who has not lived her life in a straight line. Among many detours, and a lifelong obsession with Mike Tyson, she has muddled through.. but now finds that a new lover and a quick trip to Vegas can’t fix everything. Frese does a great job of capturing the unique Hatteras sense of community and the Outer Banks backdrops will please everyone.
Jamie Anderson, owner of Downtown Books, has The Baddest Girl on the Planet at the top of her 2021 Beach Bag reading list and can’t wait to introduce readers to it- and to Heather on Friday, May 7 from 4pm – 6pm when she will be signing her book. You can also catch Heather earlier in the day down on Hatteras at Buxton Village Books for a noon signing! Future Friday signings will feature Angel Khoury, John Railey, Audra Krieg and more! Downtown Books is located at 103 Sir Walter Raleigh Street in beautiful downtown Manteo. Books may be pre-reserved by calling 252-473-1056 or visiting duckscottage.com.
