A message from the family of Barbara and Rick Sherman

On March 22, a vehicular accident in Lower Currituck took the life of Barbara Sherman and severely injured her husband, Rick. With Rick now home from the hospital, his family wanted to share this message with the Outer Banks Community and to announce plans for a memorial tribute to Barbara’s life.

“For everything there is a season.  This season, at least this day, is one of gratitude.  After numerous surgeries, two weeks in intensive care and a hospitalization lasting 45 days, our beloved Rick Sherman is home.

We are beyond grateful for Rick and for the outpouring of love and support that helped us reach this day.  Thank you for carrying us through this challenging season.  From your prayers, cards and flowers to your meals, messages and even luminaries, you’ve shown what it means to love your neighbor as yourself.  There is no place on the planet like this strip of sand we call home.  Thank you, Outer Banks community, for sustaining us with love.  There’s no place like home.  There’s no place like the Outer Banks.

In this season we also grieve the passing and give thanks for the life of Ricky’s beloved wife, Barbara.  Now that Rick is home it is appropriate that we honor her and celebrate her life.  Join us on Sunday, May 16 at 3 p.m. on the lawn at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church.  Please bring a chair to the outdoor service.

In honor of Barbara’s love of learning and her life-long commitment to education, in lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial tribute to the Barbara Sherman Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Outer Banks Community Foundation. https://obcf.org/barbara-barnes-sherman-scholarship-fund.  Gifts can also be made by check to the Outer Banks Community Foundation (at 13 Skyline Road, Southern Shores, NC 27949) with a memo noting the Barbara Sherman Memorial Scholarship.”

I used to work for Rick at RPC Contracting years ago. Awesome guy to work for. I am glad to hear he is doing better. I am terribly sorry for the family’s loss of his wife.
