Congratulations to the Currituck High School cheerleading squad, which just won its third straight state championship. In an email to the Voice, coach Lynetti Warren reflected on a remarkable and unprecedented season.
“This year, I have had the opportunity to coach a special group of young ladies!! In a year where tryouts were virtual, we were limited in when we could practice, how we could practice and where we could practice. These young ladies’ perseverance impressed me beyond measure.
In a ‘normal’ year, we would have our competition routine 6 months prior to attending the States, this year we learned this routine 2.5 months before the States. As a coach I appreciate their willingness to work together no matter the obstacle, always being kind, positive, and willing to work hard.
This team is one of the most cohesive teams I have ever coached, with a strong group of seniors — Kara Dixon, Raegan Bland, Emma Waugh, and Kendal Carroll who truly led this team to their third NCHSAA Cheer Championship. We competed at South Alamance High School in Graham, NC in the D2 Small Varsity Non-Tumble Division.
Winning was just the completion to a wonderful and crazy cheer season!! Coach Chelsea and I are so proud of each and every one of them.”
