If you get up early enough on Memorial Day, there’s a treat in store. Now properly known as Staff Sgt. Eric Williams, the Manteo High alum and musical marvel who currently plays with the U.S. Army Field Band’s Jazz Ambassadors, has posted an item on social media announcing that he will be performing with the group on May 31 on NBC’s Today Show. Williams tells anyone interested to tune in at 7 a.m.
Hello everyone! I’m Staff Sergeant Eric Williams, some of you just know me as Eric. Back in 2011, I moved to Manteo where I started middle school. I now live in Maryland as I am a member of the Jazz Ambassadors of The United States Army Field Band! Tomorrow morning will be my first performance since January 2020! Also it’ll be my first since I arrived at my unit. Tune into NBC’s Today Show tomorrow morning at 7am!
Among Eric Williams’ many musical achievements, while he was at Manteo High School, he received the Catherine Carrington Clawson Scholarship and the Glenn and Pat Eure Scholarship for Arts Education awarded by the Outer Banks Community Foundation. He also helped establish a group of NC high school jazz musicians who played at the Charlotte Jazz Festival.
