On the morning of July 19, U.S. Coast Guard Station Hatteras posted this account of a vessel that ran into trouble, and with Coast Guard assistance, made it safely back to shore.
“Station Hatteras received a phone call Saturday night about vessel Third Wave who had lost power to one of their engines and were unfamiliar with our inlet. We instructed them to anchor for the night as crossing the inlet during night-time would have presented more risks than waiting for first light.
At 0502, CG47308 got underway to where their last known position, the Hatteras Inlet sea buoy. CG47308 was on scene and made contact with Third Wave and at 0711 both vessels were safely across the bar and making way towards Hatteras. Third Wave was safely moored at 0901 and CG47308 was back at the station at 0939.”
