July 18 PLASTIC BAG PROJECT UPDATE: 73lbs of bags collected, 427 lbs to goal. Thanks to everyone in our community who have contributed plastic bags for our “bags to bench” recycling project – keep them coming!

July 13: The Outer Banks Woman’s Club OBWC is collecting plastic grocery/store bags, plastic film and bubble wrap to be recycled by TREX Company during June-December, 2021. At the end of the collection period, TREX will recycle the bags into a bench that will be located in the OBX community

The bags can be deposited in designated receptacles at the following locations:

  • YMCA (3000 S. Croatan Highway, Nags Head)
  • Baum Center (309 Mustian Street, KDH)
  • Joe Lamb Realty (4607 N. Croatan Highway, Kitty Hawk)

All plastic bags need to be clean, dry, and free of food residue. Flattening the bags before placing in receptacle is also helpful. Thank you for your support of our recycling project.

Considering this area is very well known for its beautiful beaches, wouldn’t it just make perfect sense to do away with plastic bags altogether?
