This banner — bearing the now familiar “Justice for LeeAnn” hashtag — was flown over the Outer Banks on July 26 to mark the one-year anniversary of the death of LeeAnn Fletcher. The Kitty Hawk resident was found unresponsive in her home last July 22. And after an impassioned and persistent campaign by friends and family to keep the case in the public spotlight, a suspect, John (Jay) Tolson, was arrested in October of last year.
This video of the banner flying was posted on the Facebook page of Trisha Cahoon, LeeAnn’s first cousin and close friend, who spearheaded that social media campaign.
While the case has been continued on several occasions, District Attorney Andrew Womble has said he expects to select a date for the second-degree murder trial against Tolson on or about Aug. 30.
