For the month of September our Courtroom Gallery will feature Travis Fowler, Valerie Johnston and Jan Southard . Dare County Arts Council will be hosting two opening receptions at First Friday in downtown Manteo on Friday, September 3 from 6pm to 8pm.
The show will be on display in our Vault Gallery September 3 through September 25, 2021.
In September, our Vault Gallery will feature a variety of media by Valerie Johnson and Jan Southard. The month-long exhibit represents Val’s and Jan’s view of the natural world. They don’t always see things as they are, but as they might be while wearing rose colored glasses. Val and Jan have fun with what they do and their sense of humor often shows through in their art.
They have been friends for a long time and thoroughly enjoy each other’s company, sharing ideas and inspiring one another, resulting in whimsical pieces and collaborations.
Wayward will be on display September 3-25, 2021. In September, our Courtroom Gallery will feature mixed media by Travis Fowler. The month-long exhibit will showcase Travis’ ability to push the envelope while exploring cause and effect through his art.
Wayward is inspired by Travis’ three year old son Taj. The work that will be exhibited is painted with pure impulse and no inhibitions, and is a collaboration between father and son. Together, Travis and Taj have created a body of work that demonstrates a light, loose, and fun approach to painting. Travis says, “Watching Taj paint inspired me to loosen up and have more fun with making art. Taj starts each piece with an impulsively applied color field – colors of his choice. Then, I continue to work on each piece to further build complexity and composition. Because this work is a collaborative effort with my son, 50% of the sales of this show will go directly to his college savings account.”
