The Dare County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is reporting that a woman over 65 years of age succumbed to COVID-19 on Sept. 15. She becomes the 18th person to die from the virus since the pandemic was first tracked back in March 2020.
This is the first COVID fatality since late August, when a man and woman, both over 65, succumbed.
The new fatality was reported on Sept. 16, when the DHHS also reported 23 new cases of COVID along with some brighter news. Twenty residents of Dare County who had been categorized as having active cases are now considered recovered, bringing the number of active cases among residents to 163.
In addition, 3 county residents who had been hospitalized with COVID have been released, leaving 14 residents currently hospitalized from the virus.
