High rip current risk continues from Duck to Buxton, moderate south of Cape Hatteras

HIGH rip current risk continues at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Ocean swimming is not recommended, OBEY Red Flags and stay out of the water!

MODERATE rip current risk south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village, & Ocracoke. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Never swim alone, always take flotation!

Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which was at 7:35 am with the next low around 8:55 pm today.

Mostly cloudy, then partly sunny skies today with areas of drizzle early. High temperature in the mid 70s. North winds around 10 mph.
