Manteo season ends with 2-0 loss in Regionals round

Update: Manteo High School’s memorable run toward a 2A State Soccer Championship ended on Tuesday, Nov. 16, as the No. 4 seeded Redskins dropped a 2-0 Regionals round contest on the road to the No. 1 seeded Greene Central Rams. Greene Central scored one goal in each half to earn the win. The Manteo men’s squad ends a remarkable season 14-4-1, one that is clearly worthy of celebrating.


The eyes of Dare County high school sports fans will be on the Manteo High School men’s soccer team this evening.

Manteo, one of four teams left in the tournament, will play in the Regional 2A Championships on Tuesday, Nov 16 at 6 p.m. as the team travels to Greene Central High School in Snow Hill for an away contest.

With a 14-3 overall record this season, the No. 4 seeded Redskins will take on No. 1 seeded Rams, a team sporting a sparkling 24-1 record. To get this far in the state tournament, the Manteo squad has been soccer’s version of the cardiac kids, winning three out of its four tournament games by nail-biting 2-1 margins, while winning the other game by a 6-4 score in overtime.
