Normally, the Beach Food Pantry isn’t open on Black Friday. But today, it had a different kind of product to dispense, according to Executive Director Elisabeth Silverthorne
For the first time ever, the Pantry is making sure about 100 households will have the gift of a Christmas tree through an online ordering system that allowed them to reserve the trees ahead of time for pickup today, Nov. 26.
The event was a team effort with Twiddy & Co. donating the trees and members of the community chipping in with ornaments, lights and other decorations.
Reached by the Voice on the afternoon of Nov. 26, Silverthorne said the final tree count was somewhere between 103 and 108. And by the afternoon, the large majority of them had already been carted away to brighten living rooms, dens and dining rooms throughout the Outer Banks.
