Sherwood Dorsey Johnson, Jr., age 78, of Powells Point, NC died on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at his home.  He was born in Norfolk, VA on March 13, 1943 to the late Sherwood Dorsey Johnson, Sr. and Mary Emily Howard Johnson.  Sherwood served his country honorably in the U. S. Air Force.  He had a passion for helping people and pursued his career in the real estate industry.  He proudly owned Integrity Investments in Currituck for many years.  Family holiday cooking was a definite passion.  He also enjoyed his time worked prior to retirement as a chef on a tugboat.  Golf was a main love of his and he worked at Kilmarlic Golf Club.  Sherwood knew everyone and had a reputation of being quite a character.  Doing things his way was the only way and earned him the distinction of excellent workmanship, especially as an amazing carpenter.

He is survived by his daughters, Vicky Fisher (Carey) of Virginia Beach, VA, Shannon Rose (Kenny) of Currituck, NC, Theresa Johnson (Travis) of Elizabeth City, NC and Rebeka Johnson (Robert) of Ithaca, NY; two sons, Sherwood D. Johnson, IV (Sarah) of Charleston, SC and Christian Johnson of Elizabeth City, NC; a brother, Charles R. Johnson (Kathy) of Norfolk, VA; nine grandchildren, Kristen (Charles), Brittney, Benjamin (Allison), Richard, Christina, Kenton, McKenzie, Tristan, and Jordan; and three great-grandchildren, Michael, Tahir, and  Harper.   He was predeceased by a brother, Ross Edward Johnson; a sister, Judith Follett; and a son, Sherwood Dorsey Johnson, III.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Kilmarlic Golf Club, 215 Westside Lane, Powells Point, NC  27966 with Pastor Tom Lee officiating. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 is assisting the Johnson family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Visitors Bureau will hold a public meeting to review the plans for an Outer Banks Event Center. The meeting will take place on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Keeper’s Galley building at Haven on the Banks, 115 Dove Street, Nags Head North Carolina 27959.

Still in the conceptual phase, the Event Center is intended to provide suitable and flexible space for year-round events, concerts, sports, meetings, smaller tradeshows, galas and any number of other uses. Learn more about the benefits for visitors and residents and how the Event Center is planned to complement the new Soundside boardwalk that is being designed.
