OBX U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary presents “Boat America Boating Safety Class”

OBX U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
March Boating Safety Class  is taught by USCG Auxiliary certified instructors and satisfies NC boat operator education requirements, and best of all — its VIRTUAL — on Zoom.
3 – two hour Virtual Zoom classes March, 14, 16, 21

This course satisfies NC boat operator education requirements

  • Introduction to Boating – Types of boats, engines, boating terms, sailboats, paddle craft, powerboats.
  • Boating Law – Boat registration, regulations, hull identification numbers, required safety equipment, Federal boating law, state boating law, and reporting accidents.
  • Safety Equipment – Life jackets, fire extinguishers, sound-producing devices, visual distress signals, anchors, and other safety equipment.
  • Safe Operation and Navigation – Buoys and beacons, aids to navigation, navigation rules, docking, and the dangers of alcohol on the water.
  • Boating Emergencies – Hypothermia, boating accidents, man overboard, capsizing, emergency radio calls, carbon monoxide dangers, and weather.
  • Trailering – Types of trailers, lights, hitches, towing a trailer.
  • Sports and Boating – Water-skiing, hunting and hunting gear, PWC operation, and other boating tips.

All classes taught by certified Coast Guard Auxiliary Instructors.

Tuition is $20 for 1st family member, $10 for each additional family member and includes all materials.

The class is virtual, on Zoom, on the following dates:

  • Session #1 – March 14th
  • Session #2 – March 16th
  • Session #3 – March 21st

All Classes will run from 7:00 PM–9:00 PM

NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING TO REVIEW PLANS FOR AN OUTER BANKS EVENT CENTER

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Visitors Bureau will hold a public meeting to review the plans for an Outer Banks Event Center. The meeting will take place on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Keeper’s Galley building at Haven on the Banks, 115 Dove Street, Nags Head North Carolina 27959.

Still in the conceptual phase, the Event Center is intended to provide suitable and flexible space for year-round events, concerts, sports, meetings, smaller tradeshows, galas and any number of other uses. Learn more about the benefits for visitors and residents and how the Event Center is planned to complement the new Soundside boardwalk that is being designed.
