Both the First Flight boys and girls lacrosse teams won their second-round playoff games in the state championship tournament on May 5.
After a first-round bye, the First Flight boys defeated J.H. Rose by an 11-3 score at home on Thursday, jumping out to 3-1 lead in the first quarter that they never relinquished. With the win, First Flight moved it record to 9-3. The No. 2 seeded Nighthawks will play their third-round game on Tuesday, May 10 against No. 7 seeded Cedar Ridge.
Also on May 5, the First Flight girls team rolled to a 24-14 victory on the road over Terry Sanford in its second-round playoff game. Liz Clagett and Therese Schiba paced the attack with 7 goals apiece, while Neely Morris chipped in with 6. The No. 9 seeded squad, with an 8-3 overall record, will play its third-round game on May 10.
NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING TO REVIEW PLANS FOR AN OUTER BANKS EVENT CENTER

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Visitors Bureau will hold a public meeting to review the plans for an Outer Banks Event Center. The meeting will take place on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Keeper’s Galley building at Haven on the Banks, 115 Dove Street, Nags Head North Carolina 27959.
Still in the conceptual phase, the Event Center is intended to provide suitable and flexible space for year-round events, concerts, sports, meetings, smaller tradeshows, galas and any number of other uses. Learn more about the benefits for visitors and residents and how the Event Center is planned to complement the new Soundside boardwalk that is being designed.
