NC12 remains CLOSED between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe

NCDOT NC12

The overnight high tide was not kind to our efforts to reopen the road, as more overwash and sand covers the road at the Pea Island Visitor Center and the S-Curves. Our crews were out at first light, trying to clear the road and rebuild protective dunes and berms in advance of the next high tide this afternoon. Right now, it’s too early to tell if we will be able to reopen to traffic today.

Other spots along Hatteras Island remain passable, with some overwash and sand in several spots. Drive with extreme caution if you must go out today.

UPDATE from North Carolina Ferry System

May 11 at 8 am: Good morning… there’s been no change in status for any of our routes this morning, but we are hoping for an easing up in weather conditions later today into tomorrow. We’ll keep you posted!
