HIGH rip current risk at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Ocean conditions will bring powerful rip currents and cool water temperatures from Duck to Buxton. Watch for storm debris on the beach and in the water. Ocean swimming is not recommended, stay out of the water!

MODERATE rip current risk and cool water temperatures south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village, & Ocracoke. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Watch for storm debris on the beach and in the water. Never swim alone, always take flotation!

Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which occurs at 11:40 am today.

Mostly cloudy skies today with areas of fog. A chance of showers and thunderstorms. High temperatures in the lower 70s.  East to southeast winds around 10 mph.  Water temperatures: Duck Pier…57. Jennettes Pier…56. Oregon Inlet Marina…60. Rodanthe Pier…60. Avon Pier…66.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Visitors Bureau will hold a public meeting to review the plans for an Outer Banks Event Center. The meeting will take place on Monday, June 6, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Keeper’s Galley building at Haven on the Banks, 115 Dove Street, Nags Head North Carolina 27959.

Still in the conceptual phase, the Event Center is intended to provide suitable and flexible space for year-round events, concerts, sports, meetings, smaller tradeshows, galas and any number of other uses. Learn more about the benefits for visitors and residents and how the Event Center is planned to complement the new Soundside boardwalk that is being designed.
