High rip current risk south of Cape Hatteras

HIGH rip current risk south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village, & Ocracoke. Ocean conditions will bring dangerous rip currents. Ocean swimming is not recommended, stay out of the water.

LOW rip current risk at the ocean beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Remember LOW risk does not mean NO risk.

Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which occurs around 1:15 pm today.

On the northern beaches expect partly sunny skies. Showers and thunderstorms are likely. High temperature in the upper 80s. West winds around 10 mph.

On Hatteras Island expect mostly sunny skies with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. High temperature in the mid 80s. West winds around 15 mph.
