First Flight High School

The 13th Annual Walk Against Addiction will be held on September 24 at First Flight High School.  There is an optional 5k before the Walk beginning at 8:00 a.m. sponsored by the OBX Running Company!  The actual Walk begins at 9:00 a.m. with a set up of vendors; free coffee from Starbucks and Crumbl cookies!  Sign in is $10 for a tote bag, pen and water bottle.  We will also have t shirts and tank tops for sale for $15/each.  After sign in, please stroll through the vendor tables and gather information concerning prevention, treatment and after treatment of the disease of addiction that is killing our population!

After signing in, Betsy Haas of Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church will pray an opening prayer and Dare County Commissioner Ervin Bateman will deliver opening remarks.   We have two speakers this year:  Carolyn Clark will speak on losing her son, who was a student at First Flight High School, to a fentanyl overdose and her mission to rid overdoses in our community!  Susan Lee is our keynote speaker and will speak on Adverse Childhood Experiences!  It is sure to be an enlightening morning for ALL!

After the speakers end their testimonies, we begin our actual walk from the parking lot of First Flight High School through the parking lots of First Flight Middle School and First Flight Elementary school (approximately 1 mile) and then back to the high school where you will have an opportunity to mingle and partake of free hot dogs/hamburgers. We will be finished up by approximately 11:30 or noon.

Last year the Walk sponsored 22 persons into Oxford Houses and treatment, several transports to rehab facilities and along with Toys for Tots, provided toys for 82 children of residents of Dare County Detention Center.
