  • Dennis and Jerri O’Shell

How do you put in a few words the lasting impression someone has left on your life? Needless to say, when we heard the news of his passing, we were devastated and in shock! 😢
Dennis and I and our 3 daughters moved to the OBX in ‘95. The Shark was probably the first radio station we found! Not sure when Marko started but we always enjoyed listening to him. In 1999 we bought the Nags Head Shell station, now occupied by the new 7-11. He came in all the time and some of the other Shark deejays back then. Marko and our family became dear friends. He deejayed a fundraiser for us one time in 2000, when our 3 girls, myself, and other kids from our youth group were doing a car wash/bake sale to earn money for all the foreign mission trips we were going on that summer. Over the years, as I said, Mark, became a treasured friend! When our middle daughter was getting married, he was our top choice for a DJ! When our youngest daughter was getting married, again, he was top choice! But Hurricane Matthew had other plans. The wedding was 10/14/2016 and was outdoors in Currituck county. I’ll never forget when Mark pulled up in our driveway and got out literally in tears, not because he’d lost everything, which he did, but because he felt he was letting us down because he had no equipment to do her wedding. I’ll never forget standing in our front yard between the highways with hurricane debris everywhere and the 3 of us in a big ole bear hug together!
When we moved off the OBX a little over 4 years ago, only a little over an hour away, we still kept in touch. There are more stories than I can put here but we all need more of Mark St. John’s in this world!
Marko, you’ve left a “forever” impression on the hearts of the OBX community and the O’Shell family! ❤️😢
