Early dismissal for Dare Schools on Oct. 3

Additional schedule changes possible, depending on weather

Dare County Interim Schools Superintendent Steve Blackstock sent this email to school families announcing a modification of school schedules due to the expected stormy weather on Monday.

Due to risks of high winds and flooding, Dare County Schools will operate on an Early Dismissal Schedule on Monday, October 3. Individual school release times are found on the Dare County Schools website (linked here). All after-school events, including After School Enrichment, are canceled. We will continue to communicate with local officials and the National Weather Service as the storm effects begin to move into the area. If conditions warrant, we may need to make further changes to the schedule.

Now we cancel school based on forecasts. Showing my age, but when I was in school, it was cancelled when the bus was not able to pick you up; not a minute before.

Edward, I’ll show my age even more. In our school district, the supt. would only call off school after all the students somehow managed to brave the bad weather (in this case, heavy snow) and actually arrived at school.

40 mph winds is the spoken limit for school bus operation. Kids don’t need to be waiting for buss when it’s blowing sustained 40. Unsafe. Plus, busses should not be driving through saltwater..

Anyway, school has been canceled due to a truly ridiculous reason, phone service is out, kids cannot have phones in their face all day..
