Coastal Flood and High Surf Advisories in effect

By on October 4, 2022

There is a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for Hatteras Island and the Northern Outer Banks until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and a High Surf Advisory in effect until Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 a.m.

Up to 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level isĀ possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways,Ā resulting in a low threat of property damage. Some roads andĀ low-lying property, including parking lots, parks, lawns, andĀ homes adjacent to the waterfront will experience shallowĀ flooding. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions andĀ localized beach erosion.
Residual flooding from recent high tides combined with elevated water levels for the next couple of high tides will continue to cause minor flooding problems. If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due toĀ dangerous surf conditions.
