Check out the special things going on at the museum. Sign up in advance to ensure your spot in events with limited seating. Multiple food classes and several different opportunities to learn how to make dreamcatchers or pine needle baskets are currently scheduled.

Making Dreamcatchers at Frisco Native American Museum

  • Saturday, November 19 from 2-4 p.m. (CLASS CANCELED DUE TO ILLNESS)
  • Saturday, December 17 from 2-4 p.m.

If you’re interested in Native Crafts, then you’re familiar with the dreamcatchers. This is your chance to learn how to make your own! They’re perfect for a last minute gift for the holidays!

Join our in-house artist and museum staff member, Amber Roth, as she takes you through the steps of weaving a dreamcatcher. Workshop is $20 and will last anywhere from 2-4 hours, extra time allotted for troubleshooting. Participants will be creating a small dreamcatcher on a 2-inch brass ring that they will wrap in colorful ribbon. They will also have glass beads available to add to their dreamcatcher as well as feathers to add to the bottom.

Native Cooking – Savory

Getting ready for Thanksgiving? Honor the Native Americans by adding a Native dish to your family dinner!  Native people relied on a variety of food for their meals and this class will feature several traditional Savory recipes. Join our Education Director, Barbara Miller, as she cooks features these recipes that will be a hit at any family dinner!  We will be making:

  • Squash & Cranberries
  • Smoked turkey & corn soup
  • Pueblo Blue corn dumplings

Not only will participants learn how to cook, but they’ll get to sample everything made! Make sure to come hungry!  Participants will receive copies of all the recipes showcased.

Learn Pine Needle Basketry

FNAM – Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center

Saturday, December 3 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The long needle pines were used by tribes in the southeast, including the Croatoan on the Outer Banks, to make intricate baskets.

Join our museum staff member, Amber Roth, as she teaches you how create these elegant baskets. Classes are $20 and will last approximately 2 hours. Participants will be making a circular disk out of locally gathered long needle pine. They will also be given the option to create a small lip on their disk to practice changing the shape of their piece, giving them the skills to create more elaborate baskets on their own at home. Pine needles, thread, and needles will be provided for the class time.

NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS:  BIDDER PRE-QUALIFICATION REQUEST:  Barnhill Contracting has been selected as the Construction Manager at Risk by Dare County and is seeking to pre-qualify construction trade and specialty contractors to submit bids for furnishing Labor, Material, Equipment, and Other for the new “Dare County – EMS 1 / Fire Station 14” (KDH) located in Kill Devil Hills, NC.  PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The scope of the project encompasses approximately 36,000 sqft of new construction and 18,000 sqft of demolition on a 3.5-acre site located at the 1630 N Croatan Highway, Kill Devil Hills, NC. The project includes masonry bearing walls supporting a Standing Seam Metal Roof over Light Gauge Trusses housing administrative, living and support spaces along with 6 apparatus bays. Principal trade and specialty contractors are solicited for the following Bid Packages: BP750 – Turnkey Siding. Additional Packages may be added and/or deleted at the discretion of the Construction Manager. Historically underutilized business participation is encouraged.
