The Manteo High School men’s soccer team won its third-round contest in the 2A State Championship tournament on Nov. 7 by defeating Jordan-Matthews 4-2 in a home contest, scoring two goals in the second period to break a 2-2 tie. Now, No. 3 seed Manteo will take on No. 2 seed James Keenan on Thursday, Nov. 10 at a neutral site. A victory in that game would propel Manteo to the 2A semifinals in a game to be played on Nov. 15.

The news was also good for First Flight High School soccer squad, which took a 2-0 victory over Lee County in a 3A bracket home playoff contest on Nov. 7. First Flight, which scored both of its goals in the first period, will now face No. 6 Carrboro at a neutral site on Thursday, Nov. 10. Proud of the Dare County kids carrying on the tradition of excellence in school soccer started a long time ago.

Many aren’t aware that the Outer Banks has a tremendous foundation for the sport of soccer, and is known well throughout the state for it.

Congratulations to both the First Flight, and Manteo programs coaches and players. Both championship level teams!

Correction needed. First Flight will have a Home game Thursday in Kill Devil Hills versus Carrboro, but Manteo will be on the road at James Keenan (Warsaw, NC).
