Back in June, the Voice published a profile about the creative program Project Publish, an initiative of the First Flight Middle School writing club that gives its seventh graders the opportunity to become published authors of novellas or short stories.

The winning novella of the Project Publish contest is published by Four Leaf Publishing, and if the author wants to have the book available for sale, it is made available through Amazon. This year’s winner of the contest was Eleni Kiousis, whose novella, A Different Kind of Perfect, focuses on friendships and how they evolve yet remain strong.

As Eleni explained it to the Voice in the June story, once she figured out her story, A Different Kind of Perfect came together fast.

“In the beginning of the competition, I was writing a completely different story,” she said. “And then halfway into the competition, I was like, I’m not feeling it. And then I wrote the book in a month.”

Now you can read what made Eleni’s work a prize winner. A Different Kind of Perfect is available on Amazon at this link: A Different Kind of Perfect: Kiousis, Eleni Grace: 9798843761455: Books.

The Amazon blurb describes Eleni as “a student at First Flight Middle School who enjoys reading, drawing, playing the piano, going to the beach and sleeping in way too late. She is the 2022 winner of the second annual Project Publish contest and hopes that this book will be the first of many.”

To celebrate the book, First Flight Middle School posted this Nov. 10 tribute on its Facebook page in a few simple words: “We are so proud of you!!”
