The Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department has posted this information on its Facebook page about a Nov. 17 vessel fire at Spencer Marine.

Last evening, as members reported to the station for our weekly training night, the Roanoke Island Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a structure fire at Spencer Marine on Beverly Drive in Wanchese.

Units arrived to find a large sport fishing vessel with heavy smoke from the boat’s interior and positioned close to a structure. With an aggressive interior attack, the fire was quickly brought under control.

Roanoke Island Fire Department’s fully staffed response included 4 Fire Engines, Ladder Truck, Rescue, Squad, Utility Vehicle, Fire Chief, Assistant and Deputy Chiefs. Thank you to Dare County Sheriff’s, Dare EMS, and the Fire Marshal for assistance on scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
