Three films and three genres as the Bryan Cultural Film Series brings three classic movies to the big screen. TheĀ Philadelphia Story, theĀ Red ShoesĀ and theĀ Magnificent SevenĀ are three movies that should be in every movie lover’s history of great movies.

Taking a deep dive into why the three movies in this year’s Film Series are classics, Dr. Chris Palestrant, Professor of Music Composition at ECSU, will offer his popularĀ “peek behind the curtain” look at how the movies were made and some little known titillating tidbits.

Dr. Palestrant will Peek Behind the Curtain at 4:00 p.m. Movies will be screened at 4:30.

Philadelphia Story
Sunday, February 19

Starring Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and James Stewart star in one of the great romantic comedies of all time.

Often copied, but never bettered, theĀ Philadelphia Story is a sparkling romantic comedy with impeccable performances, witty dialogue, and then perfect vision of director George Cukor.

 

The Red Shoes
Sunday, March 5

Starring Moira Shearer, Anton Walbrook, and Marius Goring.

A powerful and ultimately tragic story of love and betrayal, theĀ Red ShoesĀ is considered one of the best film’s ever produced by British movie industry.

 

The Magnificent Seven

TheĀ ensemble castĀ includesĀ Yul Brynner,Ā Steve McQueen,Ā Charles Bronson,Ā Robert Vaughn,Ā Brad Dexter,Ā James Coburn, andĀ Horst Buchholz, andĀ Eli Wallach

Akira Kurosawa’s 1954Ā Japanese filmĀ Seven SamuraiĀ is reimagined in what is arguably one of the best westerns ever filmed. Directed by John Sturges, theĀ Magnificent SevenĀ is an action-packed thriller that never loses sight of the humanity of the main characters.

All movies will be shown atĀ  R/C Kill Devil Hills Movies 10, 1800 N. Croatan Highway, Kill Devil Hills.

The Bryan Cultural Series is a non-profit organization formed in 2012.Ā  The board of directors is composed of nine community leaders dedicated to offering a series of high-quality cultural events.Ā  These events will include a variety of visual, literary, and performing arts.Ā  The board strives to glean from the talent that has attained regional as well as national recognition to maintain a high standard.
