The NC Aquarium at Roanoke Island is reporting that very early on the morning of Jan. 31, volunteers from N.E.S.T. (Network for Endangered Sea Turtles) picked up 77 cold-stunned sea turtles who had been treated at the Aquarium’s STAR Center and shuttled them down to Fort Macon with the help of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.

Of the 77 turtles, 5 cold stuns who came to the STAR Center during December and January went to the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and the NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher to continue their rehabilitation.

The other 72 turtles were delivered to the US Coast Guard Station Fort Macon and 7 of them were cold stuns from December and January. The 2 remaining turtles had stranded a bit earlier in the fall. They were released by the Coast Guard during the day on Jan. 31.
