Manteo High School’s Nick Brewster finished 6th in the 2A 195lb classification in the state tournament.
Nick Brewster became the 24th Manteo High School male wrestler to place in the State Championships by finishing 6th in the 2A 195-pound classification last week. He finishes his senior campaign as a two-time state qualifier.
Riley Perciful wrestled at 170 pounds and went 2-2 in the state tournament, finishing in the top 8. He is also a two-time state qualifier. Dylan Polatty wrestled at 160 pounds and ended his senior season as a three-time qualifier for the state tourney.
āI thought the guys wrestled well,ā said Manteo head wrestling coach Jim Metzinger in an email to the Voice. āIn this meet, it is all about staying in position and taking advantage of opportunities. At times, the other guy may have beat us to the punch, but we left it all on the mat and have much to be proud of.ā
āIt says a lot about our program to be able to take a guy like Nick [Brewster] who had never wrestled before until his 9th grade year and give him the tools to become a state placer his senior year,ā he added. āNick was a great leader in the room and a supporter of his teammates.ā
