First Flight High advances in basketball tourney, other OBX teams fall

The First Flight High School menā€™s basketball team was victorious in its second-round home playoff game on Feb. 23, defeating East Wake 75-61 and pushing its overall season record to 18-9. Mason Dobie paced the team with 25 points while his brother Isaac added 15. Eli Hawk also chipped in with 17 points. Seventh-seeded First Flight moves on to the next round of 3A competition with a Feb. 25 road game against No. 2 seed E.E. Smith.

The Manteo menā€™s team saw their strong season come to an end with a Feb. 23 road loss to South Granville by a score of 78-59 in 2A competition. For the season, Manteo finished with a sterling 17-8 record.

The Cape Hatteras womenā€™s team also dropped its Jan. 23 away 1A playoff contest to Southside, 66-44, finishing its season with a 14-10 mark. The Ocracoke men also went down in their 1A home playoff game against West Columbus 62-49, also finishing at 14-10.
