Calling Local Musicians: Join the Outer Banks Community Orchestra

By on March 14, 2023

Have a dormant musical talent? Want to dust off your clarinet, flute, cello, trumpet or other instrument and see if you can still play it? Well this may be the right time and place to bring back the music.

Dare County Youth Orchestra (DCYO) is excited to sponsor a community orchestra and wants to hear from you. Donna Trivette, chair of DCYO shared insight on the new ensemble. “Although our primary focus has been to bring string orchestra instruction into Dare County School, we feel music is a lifelong activity.” She added, “We’ve heard for years from people interested in starting a community orchestra and the time seems right to do our part to make this happen.”

Organizer Leslie Erickson, a teacher in Dare County Schools and founding member of DCYO encourages anyone with prior experience to feel welcomed into the group. “I myself want to play my instrument more,” commented Erickson. She adds, “The Outer Banks community always surprises us with talent in all kinds of places. Don’t be discouraged if you haven’t played in a while, we’re just planning to get started and see what’s possible. It’s an exciting venture!”

DCYO’s Outer Banks Community Orchestra will have their first rehearsal on March 27, 6pm at St. Andrews by the Sea in Nags Head. There are no auditions or fees to participate. They invite people interested in participating in this amateur volunteer ensemble to complete an online form so organizers can better prepare for the launch by going to: https://forms.gle/5xSy2gPfPkCj9Utx5
