Things were different at the First Flight High School signing day held this year on April 27—and by design. Rather than have a separate ceremony for each student athlete, as has been the case, the school hosted one ceremony for all the signees.

First Flight High Athletic Director Chad Williams said the thinking was that “it is very important to showcase and highlight the cumulative success of a comprehensive athletic program. This allowed us that opportunity and all of the feedback we have received has been extremely positive. We are so fortunate to have supportive administration, dedicated coaches, and talented athletes. This is a recipe for individual and team success.”

The event started by honoring First Flight senior Taylor Newton for his four years of outstanding photography of First Flight High School sporting events and just about every other aspect of student life. Taylor also photographs local high school sports for the Voice.

Congratulations to the following FFHS signees:

Mayson Ogburn who is signed to cheer at UNCW.

Tatum Dermatas who will be running track and cross country at High Point.

Trent Sylvia who will be playing soccer at Williams Peace University.

Dylan Rich who will be playing soccer at Colorado College.

Jacob Kresicki who will be wrestling at York College of Pennsylvania.

Reagan Riddick who will be wrestling at Presbyterian.

Isaac Dobie who will be playing basketball at MIT.

Gwen Botson who will be playing lacrosse at Belmont Abbey.

Two seniors who were not at the ceremony were Cam Van Lunen and Will Robinson. Both will be playing lacrosse at Hampden Sydney.

Congratulations to all!
