OBX Daredevils rebranded, renamed Scallywags

New name recognizes the Outer Banks’ pirate history

The Outer Banks Daredevils are no more.

Yes, the summer collegiate baseball team will be returning to Dare County to host 30 games at Coy Tillett Sr. Field in Manteo starting on June 1. But the name and the brand have changed. Here is the information from the team.

As part of our rebranding, the Daredevils have changed their team’s name and are now the Outer Banks Scallywags.

Following a long and storied history playing under the moniker of the Daredevils, the club has decided to rebrand the team, tying into our local lore of the pirates who once haunted these dunes and inlets, and have taken a new name, and will henceforth be the Outer Banks Scallywags.

Additional information will be added in the coming days, but join us in celebrating the new name, new brand and great collegiate summer baseball. Make plans to join the Scallywags this summer, individual game day tickets are on sale now, as well as season passes.

New Scallywags merchandise should be available on our website in the coming days. AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGG MATIE… The Scallywags be upon us.

The Scallywags will be competing in the Premier Collegiate League, along with our former CPL rival, the Edenton Steamers, playing a 42-game regular schedule this summer.

Scallywags might be better suited for a Little League team.

Scallywags? Seriously? Gooooo Scallywags. Jay is right. They have a pretty cool kickass logo and wimp down with Scallywags. *smh*

Looks like Manteo High colors to me. I’m interested to see how the attendance will be back at Manteo compared to First Flight. Manteo has the nicer complex but less visitors. I’ll miss the Daredevils and the CPL. I feel like we should have the talent draw to be highly competitive in a summer baseball league. Who wouldn’t want to come play a summer at the beach

Agree. Strongly dislike the new name and the new logo. The “Daredevils” identified the team with the county and the logo was clever, had the sense of speed. “Scallywags” sounds like a bunch of 10-year-olds, but the grim-looking logo of a skull is not playful and fun at all. Definitely not something I’d buy a t-shirt of for the visiting kids in my extended family when they visit.

I bought season tickets for this year, wanted to support the team in their return but am very disappointed with these changes.
