Currituck County Schools is pleased to announce the selection of Mrs. Kristen Saunders-Rivera as the new Moyock Elementary School principal for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. Mrs. Saunders-Rivera replaces the current principal, Mrs. Brandi Kelly, who is relocating to the Pinehurst area of North Carolina.
A school-based committee, along with district administrators, assisted with the interview and selection process. Mrs. Saunders-Rivera joins the Panther family effective June 19. Born and raised in Manteo, Mrs. Saunders-Rivera returns to northeastern North Carolina and Currituck County Schools with 26 years of experience in education. She has served as an elementary, middle, and high school administrator over the last 10 years in North Carolina school districts, including six years in an elementary school principalship. As a classroom teacher, Mrs. Saunders-Rivera taught English Language Arts, Multicultural Literature, Social Studies, and Spanish.
Mrs. Saunders-Rivera’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and a master’s in education from Elon University. In 2004, she obtained National Board Certification. She earned her administrative licensure from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2013.
