Patricia Ann Ballance, known as “Ann”, age 77, of 720A Okisko Road, Elizabeth City, NC went to her eternal home Thursday morning, May 11, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.  She was a loving, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. Her kind and caring demeanor will be forever missed. Born in Elizabeth City to the late Carlos and Margaret Armstrong, she was the widow of Earnest Eugene Ballance.
Ann attended Central High School and then went on to work at the Hosiery Mill, Kmart, and OfficeMax. She also owned and operated a small general store, Ballance’s Groceries. In her free time, she was an excellent seamstress, creating many custom wedding gowns, Easter dresses, dolls for charity, and altering many prom gowns. A woman of faith, she was an active member of New Life Assembly of God. She enjoyed bringing young women closer to God by coordinating and leading the Missionette program for over 20 years in both Grandy, NC and Elizabeth City, NC. She enjoyed playing piano and watching “her babies”, whom many knew her as Meme.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Eugene Ballance, her son Jeffery Theodore Balance (Laurie), a brother Bobby Armstrong (Pat), and two great-grandchildren Landon and Kalleigh Bohren. She leaves behind three sons, Clifton Ballance (Cricket Colson), Henry Ballance (Belinda), and Michael Ballance (April) all of Elizabeth City; one daughter Megan Ballance; and two siblings Lynn Kotzian (Cloyd Parker) of Moyock, NC and Timothy Armstrong (Becky) of Elizabeth City, NC; twelve grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023 at New Life Assembly of God, 1958 N. Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. There will be a viewing for family and friends for one hour prior to the service. The family will receive guests at a reception held in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service and at all other times at Ann’s residence.
