On Saturday May 6, seven First Flight Middle School athletes competed in the NCRunners State Middle School Track & Field Championships.
The meet began with the 4×800 meter relay. Kiah Smith, Ella-Rae Reese, Shelby Chercka, and Kayla Folkes took down distance-running powerhouse Cuthbertson Middle School to place 3rd in the state and get on the medal stand. Maddy Beatson placed 2nd in the state in high jump, tying the top jumper but missing out on 1st due to a tie breaker. Avery Thiessen set a new school record in the 200m with a time of 27.19 seconds.
