The Manteo Women’s Soccer Team hosted South Granville on May 15, in the first round of the 2023 NCHSAA 2A Women’s Soccer Championships. The visiting team arrived late to the proceedings, delaying the game’s kickoff for 20 minutes. Mid-fielder CC Lowe scored Manteo’s first goal 10 minutes into the contest with a blistering shot. She added another goal later in the 1st half. Striker Kiley Eckard led Manteo with an impressive 4 goals. Teammates Kenzie Flynn and Abbi Calvio (#1) also contributed to the lopsided first round win. Flynn scored twice, and Calvio scored once. At the final whistle, Manteo defeated South Granville by a final score of 9-0 advancing to the second round of the playoffs and moving their unbeaten record to 20-0-2. On Thursday, May 18, Manteo will face NCSSM Durham Unicorns (8-9-3) at home.

Across the bridge, the First Flight women’s soccer team defeated Lee County by a 3-1 score in its first-round home 3A playoff game played in Kill Devil Hills on Monday, May 15. First Flight came out strong with a goal from Summer Stevens two minutes into the first half, with Alexa Hallac scoring 10 minutes into the first half. Stevens later tallied the team’s third goal, finishing off the First Flight scoring. With the win, First Flight moved its overall season record to 18-3-1. The team will host Western Alamance (17-2-1) in a second-round playoff game on Thursday, May 18 at 5:30.
