HIGH rip current risk at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Ocean conditions will bring powerful rip and longshore currents and a dangerous 7 to 9 foot shorebreak from Duck to Buxton. Ocean swimming is not recommended, stay out of the water!
MODERATE rip current risk and a strong longshore current south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Never swim alone, always take flotation!
Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which was at 7:15 am with the next low around 7:10 pm today.
