Andy Stewart, who resigned suddenly last fall after serving for six years as Kitty Hawk Town Manager, has just been hired to fill the same position in Oakland, FL, a town of about 3,500 located in the central part of the state.
According to a story published on orangeobserver.com the announcement of Stewart’s hiring was on May 23 and he began work in his new post on May 26. He is listed as town manager on the Oakland town website. Prior to his work in Kitty Hawk, Stewart had worked as a municipal official in several Florida cities and earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Central Florida.
Last Nov. 1, the Town of Kitty Hawk announced Stewart’s resignation in a terse one-paragraph statement that made no mention of the reasons for his departure. About one month later, on Dec. 6, the town announced the appointment of Melody Clopton as his permanent replacement. With a dozen years of service to Kitty Hawk, Clopton had been working as administrative services director at the time of Stewart’s resignation.
An effort to reach Stewart for immediate comment on his new job was unsuccessful.
