HIGH rip current risk at the beaches of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, and Buxton. Ocean conditions will bring powerful rip currents from Duck to Buxton. Ocean swimming is not recommended, obey RED flags and stay out of the water!
MODERATE rip current risk south of Cape Hatteras including Frisco, Hatteras and Ocracoke. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water. Never swim alone, always take flotation!
Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which is around 2:45 pm today.
